Dorset Branch - Royal Signals AssociationWelcome to the home page of the Dorset Branch of the Royal Signals Association. What is it all about, we meet 12 times a year. Firstly we gather together 8 times a year for a monthly meeting in the Blandford Constitutional Club at 1930hrs for a meeting at 2000hrs (See the Events page for more details). The meeting is hosted by our Chairman Mr Geoff Grover. The meeting can last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on topics to be discussed and afterwards we retire to the bar for a beverage. Secondly, approximately 4 times a year we hold our meeting in the Crown Hotel, Blandford. This meeting will only last 5 to 10 minutes, just basically to read the minutes from our previous meeting as our wives partners and friends are in attendance. The main idea is to enjoy each others company and the fine food provided by our hosts at a cost of £14.00 per head for a 2 course meal, which is exceptional value for money in today's climate. Apart from the meal they also provide coffee and tea. During the evening a raffle takes place with the prizes donated by the members themselves and the proceeds donated to the Branch. The main function of the year is the Annual Dinner dance which in 2010 will be the Crown Hotel in Blandford with the Branch donating a portion of the cost per head to all members and their guest to off set the cost to members. During dinner we are entertained by the Stour Valley Stompers, many of the members are ex members of the Corps band. After dinner there is normally another Band for the rest of the evening for all us oldies to dance the night away and as with the Supper night a raffle is held with the proceeds being donated to the Branch. This particular night is a very popular evening with about 100 members and guests attending. Finally once a year we hold our AGM on a Sunday lunchtime Janruary/February, which in 2010 was held at the Ashely Wood golf club in Blandford, once the business was finished we then enjoyed the fine food which was cooked on the premises. This was once again followed by a raffle and horse race and the proceeds donated to the club. We are always on the lookout for new members and in particular, younger members of the Corps. Are you a younger serving or retired soldier and aware that during your service you donated a days pay to the RSA (which does lots of good work with ex members of the Corps) which then entitles you to become a life member of the Association and a member of our branch.
