As a final farewell to 36 Sig Regt (V) an all ranks evening function will be held for all past and serving members and their partners on Sat 6 Mar 2010 at the TA Centre, Coldhams Lane, Cambridge. The RSA has copies of the 2009 Memorial & Remembrance Edition of “Intrepidus”, the journal of the National POW Assn.  It is A4 size, glossy colour and has 142 pages. It has the usual numerous and tedious adverts, but does have some interesting articles – some even relating to POW. It also includes a section on the war in Afghanistan (as part of their ‘Help for heroes’ remit).

 It is on sale at £7.50, but members may obtain a free copy by sending stamps to the value of £1.51 to Assn HQ. Please include your name, address and RSA LM number. This is for UK addresses only. (11/09)

Those of you who have yet to check out the “Forces Discount Directory” may do so at; www.forcesdiscounts-mod.co.uk After logging in, it will be seen that the completion of a ‘MOD Certificate of Eligibility’ should be completed. The General Secretary has authorised the Chairman of RSA Branches and of our Affiliated Assns, to sign these certificates for their RSA Life Members, on behalf of HQ Royal Signals Association. Once signed, the certificate must be retained by the individual as it serves as proof of identification if asked. Those members of the RSA who do not belong to a branch, may send their certificate to Assn HQ for signing. Please remember to enclose a SAE for the return of the certificate and quote your RSA serial number. (10/09)

The "Canal Zoners" is open to Servicemen, Merchant Navy, NAAFI, Church Army etc who have served in the Suez Canal Zone, or other areas of Egypt and Palestine.   Associate Membership is open to all that have an interest in this period in history.    There is a regular quarterly newsletter, National/Regional/Area Meetings, Dinners, Socials, Reunions etc.   Annual Membership Fee £6.00, Life Membership Fee £30.00.  Web site www.canalzoners.com gives all the necessary information and joining instructions. The Big Lottery Fund has announced the opening of its funding initiative, Heroes Return 2, pledging funding for veterans, spouses, widows and carers wishing to mark overseas anniversaries throughout 2009 and 2010. Full details of the Big Lottery Fund programmes and grant awards are available on the website: www.biglotteryfund.org.uk The Fund has opened up a Heroes Return 2 hotline for all veterans to ring for further information: Heroes Return 2 Helpline 0845 00 00 121.

The British Cyprus Memorial Trust has been established to honour the memory of the 372 British servicemen who died on active service during the Cyprus emergency 1955-59, the 50th anniversary of the ending of which falls in 2009. Full details can be found at: www.britishcyprusmemorial.org

 Veterans Agency. The MoD has replaced the Veterans Agency website with a new site: www.veterans-uk.info This provides a single focal point for accessing a wealth of information regarding veterans' matters.

RSA car stickers. The RSA car sticker can be obtained by sending a SAE with a 50p coin (for UK addresses) to Assn HQ. It is in colour, with 'Jimmy' in the centre and adheres to the inside of the window.

E-mail address. If you have changed your E-mail address recently, don't forget to let Assn HQ know. This is particularly relevant as notification of the annual newsletter and other important matters is sent by this means to our members.
