Royal Signals Association - Rotherham Branch - HistoryThe Rotherham Branch was the brainchild of a number of members of the Sheffield Branch, who live in or around Rotherham and were aware that a number of ex members of the Corps would join the Association,or were already life members but for various reasons could not make the journey to Sheffield. After much discussion and a first refusal from HQ in Blandford, the Branch was started by an inaugural meeting on the 13 th July 1999. We were greatly helped by stalwarts such as Des Stuart,Moss Green(our branch President,Keith Bates(our Secretary/Treasurer,and Mick Hickey, who visited the local TA Centre and through the good offices of the Commanding Officer Captain A W Fairlamb(15/19 The Kings Royal Hussars),we received permission to hold our monthly meetings at the TA Centre. It should be noted that the members who started the Rotherham Branch are still members of Sheffield Branch ,and some members of Sheffield branch, who live in Sheffield have joined Rotherham Branch. Many members therefore have the luxury of attending 2 meetings each month. From the humble beginnings of 12 members.the Rotherham Branch currently has 64 members, of which 54are ex Signallers and 10 are Associate members. The branch constitution limits associate members to a maximum 20% of the total membership. |
