The Army Football Association Challenge Cup The most prestigious Cup competition in the Army Football Calendar remains the Army Football Association Challenge Cup. The Cup has been contested for since the 1888/89 season when it was won by the 2nd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who defeated 2nd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment by 2 goals to nil. The Cup has been played for each year since, with the competition only being interrupted by the two World Wars The Army FA Challenge Cup is open to all units of the Army stationed in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Germany. The Army Minor Units Cup Competition The Army FA Minor Units Cup is open to all minor units of the Army stationed in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Germany. A minor unit will be as defined by the Army Sport Control Board. See “Definition of a Unit”. The Army Six-a-Side Competition - Final Stages The competition will be played by units of the Army who are invited to take part by the Army FA. These units will normally be the winners and runners-up of the Divisional/ Formation competitions held. A unit will be as defined in “Games and Sports in the Army”.
