Introduction to Coach Education

Army FA Coach Education
"If You always do the things you've always
done, you will always be where you are now"

Good coaching is the backbone of successful teams at all levels. Most players and people working with teams have a good knowledge of the game, however the ability to deliver that knowledge to players in an effective, progressive and structured manner is the difference between a coaching session and a practice. Completing a coaching course will facilitate your ability to understand the methodology and technical detail required to be a teacher of the game. Joining the Army FA Coaches Association will ensure you maintain an up to date knowledge of events and changes occurring in the game, which will enhance you continued personal development as a coach. Ideally I would like all our coaches within the Army to be qualified. I also feel it is important that we have coaches qualified at the appropriate level in the relevant jobs:

  • Unit Coaches - Level 2
  • Corps Coaches - Level 3 (B Licence)
  • Army Coaches - Level 4 (A Licence)

There is a pathway for talented Coaches to work their way to the pinnacle of Army Coaching - The Senior Coach, Women's Coach, Development Squad Coach, Youth Coach or for Civilians to do likewise within their County Organisation.

Other opportunities in Coach Education are available to Level 2, 3 & 4 Coaches. Appropriately qualified and skilled Coaches can be mentored to deliver Level 1 and 2 Coach Education Courses on behalf of the Army or other County FA's.

The Army FA is willing to financially assist and mentor Military B Licence Coaches towards A Licence qualification. Coaches showing the commitment and talent to achieve this level of qualification will be identified and mentored via the Army Coaches Association.

Opportunities to gain UEFA recognised qualifications are available to everyone in either Coaching or The Treatment and Management of Injuries.

To apply for any of the courses advertised on the Website, please complete the application form and send it together with the appropriate course fee to the address on the application form. Courses are open to both Military Personnel and Civilians

If you would like any more information on any of the courses do not hesitate to contact us on the numbers below.

Small-sided Football

The traditional 22-player game has been overtaken by small-sided football, whose four million players The FA is committed to supporting.

Small Sided Football (5-a-side, 6-a-side, Futsal and other variations) involves up to four million players each year and is now the most popular way of playing football in this country.

The FA is committed to supporting the small-sided game in the following ways:

 < p>

  • Planning and piloting initiatives that will lead to a FA National Fives competition.
  • Introducing a specific Small-sided Football referees Qualification.
  • Updating and improving the Laws of the Game so that they improve and better reflect the game that is actually being played.
  • Enhancing working relationships with the leading commercial and independent providers of small-sided football who have driven the growth of the game.
  • Supporting the development of additional small-sided facilities across the country.
  • Improving the process of discipline in competitive small-sided leagues and tournaments so that players can be assured that they are taking part in an officially sanctioned FA competition.
  • Creating a Charter Standard Award for providers of small-sided Football to recognise and extend high quality provision.
  • Developing the game of Futsal in England. This will involve initiating regional leagues, staging a FA National Tournament, providing refereeing and coaching seminars and entering a National Team into the UEFA Championships.
