AFA - Dobsons Trophy

 The Dobsons' Trophy

The Dobsons' Trophy, donated by Major (Retired) Alan Dobson on his retirement in 1988 as the Army FA Secretary, may be won by any level of Referee. It is awarded in April each year (plus replica for retention) to the Referee considered by the Members of the Army FA Referees' Committee to have made the most significant contribution to Army Football in the season about to end. For a referee to be considered for the Trophy, his local District Referees' Committee must complete the Dobsons' Trophy Proforma and send to the Army FA Referees' Committee nominated Member by the 1st March. CITATION

Name of Referee: Sgt Chris Carter                   Formation/District: BA(G)

Sgt Chris Carter has produced another outstanding year of total dedication and unswerving loyalty to Army Football referees and BA(G) in particular. He is part of the British Army (Germany) Referees’ Committee as Hon Sec and also carries out the roles of Appointments Secretary for both Regimental and Corps football. He is an official on the local German Kreiss League (Contributory Level).

During the past year, Chris completed the National Instructors course where he was praised for his instructional skills and no nonsense approach. He has already used this qualification when he advertised, organised, and administered a Basic referees’ course enabling 17 candidates to become Level 7 referees.

He organised and ran a comprehensive two day Referees Seminar in BA(G) that involved representation from the Army Referees Committee and our Regional Director. He has represented BA(G) fully during the year having made a number of journeys back to the UK to instruct on courses and to officiate on Army and FA appointed matches. He has attended all Committee meetings and conducted training sessions to benefit attendees of all levels.

Chris is an active referee and officiates both Army and German civilian football. That said, he is as concerned with the development of other officials and regularly gives up appointments to assess or produce progress reports so that others are able to advance as far as their talents allow. He is readily available to offer advice to referees of all levels and actively acts as mentor to our junior officials. He is renowned as someone to turn to for guidance where his comments and observations are always well thought out and constructive.

He developed and introduced the BA(G) Army referees web page that offers Army FA, general referee and general football information. This continues to be an outstanding means to enable notification and acknowledgement of appointments throughout probably the largest area of Army football. This has ensured that all games are covered some at extremely short notice. He manages and enhances the web page in his own time.

Chris Carter is a fervent and conscientious supporter of Army Football and Army Refereeing. His enthusiasm is infectious to all and his dedication and commitment is unfaltering. He has continued to demonstrate significant commitment and loyalty to Service football and is an inspiration to all BA(G) officials. He would be a most fitting recipient of this award.

As Chairman, he is all I could ask for in terms of support, devotion and reliability. This nomination is made unreservedly and with the strongest possible recommendation.

Signed

Chairman BA(G) Referees’ Committee
