Gunner Sailing

RAYC

The Royal Artillery Yacht Club aims to promote sailing amongst all ranks of the Gunners; providing opportunities, encouragement, funding and support to all members of the Royal Regiment and their families who wish to participate in the sport for adventurous training, competitive and recreational benefit.

The Club seeks to develop key skills and qualifications amongst its members in the three disciplines of Offshore, Dinghies & Dayboats and Windsurfing. It provides training in powerboat handling, management and safety. It does this by arranging training opportunities, running centrally coordinated events and by providing expert advice, equipment and financial support to those who seek to develop their own sailing ambitions.

News - In Brief

ROYAL ARTILLERY KEELBOAT REGATTA - SEAVIEW 2010

The RA Seaview Regatta was held on Tue 18 and Wed 19 May 10 at Sea View Yacht Club (SVYC), Sea View, IOW.
Results for the Keelboat regatta 2010:

Steve Harfoot – Crane Mills – 14 Regt RA
Mac McCormack – Commodores Trophy – RSA/14 Regt RA
Maj Andrew Taylor – Mer Maiden Trophy – (14 Regt RA)
Russ Webster – Friends Trophy
Chris Copeland – Ryde Cup
Chris Copeland – Seaview Trophy
A Glorious 2 days in perfect weather although it took a bit of finding on the 2nd morning for the air that was actually moving. It was roasting and yet exciting sailing. As usual John Webber and crew put up a marvellous fight against both Russ webster and Chris Copeland for the retired cup.

Exercise TRANSGLOBE

Three yachts named Adventure, Challenger and Discoverer crewed by Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force personnel representing all ranks, ages and gender, are undertaking an adventurous sail training exercise that will circumnavigate the globe under the banner Exercise TRANSGLOBE. There are 13 stages being sailed with crew changes on most legs, allowing over 500 service personnel, some of whom have recently returned from tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, to experience the thrills, spills and chills of ocean sailing.
